"We Are Rubber Flooring"
February 11, 2013 @ 11:24 AM

In 2 days time it will be 6 years since Murray's plane landed in Melbourne from Auckland marking his big shift from New Zealand to Australia. As Ann was driving to pick him up she had a call on her mobile from BBR Design in Sydney. It was our first order for Dalsouple rubber flooring in 2007 for a small office in Pitt St, Sydney.

The colour was Vert Ecossais in DalUni smooth, 9m2, 1760mm x 680mm x 2.5mm. With a 10 year guarantee, we are confident the floor will still be looking as good as new.

So in 6 years we believe we've built up the brand of Dalsouple to be well known by most architects in Australia and for rubber flooring to be coming back in vogue with domestic customers.

We visited the Gumboots Children's Clothing Store at Southland Shopping Centre, in Melbourne on Saturday the 5th Jan. After 5 and a half years, the flooring still looks great. The store manager said the flooring is great to stand and work on all day. The colour is Gris Tourterelle, DalUni. Considering tons of prams, mothers, children, grandmas, mothers have walked all over the floor the tiles are showing no sign of wear and tear and no scratches.

We have about 70 Blanc Dakota (off-white to creamish) tiles in our rubber room in Melbourne. The tiles were used temporarily in a project for about 2 months, so they have a bit of adhesive residue left on the back (which can be easily removed), they have a few dints here and there, and they have old polish on them (which can be easily stripped off and resealed). They would be great for a rumpus room with a rug, temporary floor, a cubby house, a doggy day care centre, animal shelter, holiday house, caravan, van, or for a display in a store, or could even be for a small bathroom or toilet. The tiles are 1760mm x 680mm x 2.5mm.

We might sell these off in small lots, but we get a lot of requests for people who have a cheaper budget, so these ...

We were thrilled to see Dalsouple at MONA for the first time and spend the day at MONA. The museum is amazing not only for it's architecture, but for the range of artwork and 'odd' collections.

Black (Noir) Dalsouple rubber tiles were installed in the Cloaca, (poo machine) room, on the stairs around the glass elevator and at the entrance. Considering it has had over 1/2 million people walk over it, we think it has coped very well.

We think everyone in Australia should see MONA at least once. I want to go back there as I didn't see all of it.

Dalsouple in France have given us a huge stock list so most colours are in stock in smooth texture in small quantities such as 5m2 - 10m2. Some colours such as Gris Anthracite or Blanc Dakota are in stock of about 100m2. There are also stocks of popular textures such as Pastille alpha, Granita, Omega, and Gamma. We buy these for 25% off normal price. I've attached just a small piece of our list. The 2.5mm is the thickness, Ton Pierre has 53 tiles, or 63.6m2, A Quality(best quality). There is B and C quality but the colours might be a bit off so we don't want to sell them.

Did you know Dalsouple rubber tiles don't just have to be used for flooring? We have many designers who have used the rubber for walling, benches, furniture. This photo below was used by Dalsouple France in Dubai for an expo. Grey and yellow always go well together.

Yesterday we enjoyed 3 hours visiting Grand Designs Live in Melbourne. Great to hear Kevin McCloud, Peter Maddison and Andrew Winter talk. Kevin McCloud has Dalsouple installed in his own house in the UK and Peter Maddison designed the bar at Melbourne Airport where Dalsouple was used.

Interesting there were not many flooring companies there. We enjoyed meeting some architects we know and seeing some new products. Loved the auto lawn mower and will be interesting to see how long it takes to take off and be a household item.

We have a brand new pegboard in our 'rubber room' to show off the whole 80 colours in our range. Visitors are welcome to visit and choose from a range of colours and take away free samples. We also have larger tiles that you can test out with your bare feet! (only two colours missing as we need to get more samples from France). Samples are displayed in the same order as the brochure.
